- This is video #030 in my playthrough of Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride. This video contains commentary. To view the non-commentary version, click here: https://youtu.be/Y4opQRspVhY Young Madason and Prince Harry have arrived at Coburg Castle hoping to learn what has been going on there. Harry has a thought as they head west from the entrance (time 0:44). A little anonymity might be helpful. Unfortunately, they do not get far before they run into an obstinate guard (time 1:15). In addition, the guards on the second floor are none too savory (time 1:37). A couple of them dont even seem to be human! Fortunately, the two in the east are more sensible. Harry has some more dialogue when the party moves toward the castle exit (time 4:42). A secret passage, eh? So, the party heads outside to seek the secret passage (time 5:42). I admit that I was a bit stumped at this point the first time I played. However, if you visit the castle at night or rotate the camera, you should be able to see an opening underneath the castles drawbridge. To get into this opening, the party must use the raft oh-so-conveniently docked at the east side of the castle (time 6:04). This will let them get into the secret entrance. This leads them to an underground shrine (time 6:24). After hitting the painfully obvious switch on the floor, they can now enter the dungeon under the castle. Some enemies appear down here, but they are no match for the partys superior weaponry. Beware that you cannot access the party members in the wagon down here. However, they will gain experience and levels. In fact, after the first battle, Champ the Funghoul reaches Level 4 (time 7:20). East and south of the entrance, the party finds a stairway down to floor B2 (time 7:53). At the intersection, the party should take the western path to the north first to find chests with a set of Steel Fangs and a Shellmet (time 8:26). Along the eastern path to the north, the party can find an old man locked up (time 9:28). Poor guy. Wed better help him. In the next battle, Whacka the Brownie reaches Level 7 (time 11:03). Also, the party recruits a Powie Yowie named Sloth. Next, Adams the Rotten Apple reaches Level 6 (time 12:21). Champ the Funghoul reaches Level 5 and learns Sleep Attack. In a cell to the west, the party finds quite a surprise (time 13:22). Oh my! Prince Harry makes a very good point in party chat after the dialogue. In the next battle, Sloth the Powie Yowie reaches Level 2 (time 15:14). The stairway in the southwest leads back up to floor B1 (time 15:55). To the north of the stairway, the party can step on a switch to lower a door and open a shortcut. The nearby stairway leads up to the castle courtyard (time 16:08). Beware of the dogs--they are really Small Fries in disguise! After the party defeats the first, Goodian the Slime Knight reaches Level 12 and learns Bang (time 16:22). However, from the courtyard they can get into the castle through the kitchen. On the second floor of the castle, in the queens former room, the party will find a researcher named Darwin the Psarologist (time 19:57). I believe Psarologist is a reference to Psaro, the antagonist of Dragon Quest IV, who used evolution to turn himself into a monster. Up in the throne room, the party will find the Chancellor and King Wilbur (time 21:22). When they address Wilbur, the king will recognize Harry. He advises them to seek information about a mysterious mirror from a book in the vault and hands over the Key to Coburg. This key allows the party to open the blue doors in Coburg Castle. Anyway, down in Harrys old room, the party can still access the secret stairway under the chair (time 27:10). This provides quick access to the northeast part of the first floor, where the northern door leads to the vault. One of the pots here contains Mini Medal #003 (time 27:23). The book that Wilbur advised the party to seek is on the eastern bookcase (time 27:41). Interesting information! And the referenced teleportal is down the nearby stairs. However, before they leave, they can access some treasures. In the guard room on the second floor, they can access a treasure room with three treasures (time 29:09): an Iron Armour, 1,200 Gold, and a Seed of Life. Fortunately, they are not guarded by an electrified floor like in the Super Famicom and PS2 versions. Before taking the teleportal to the distant southern lands, the party saves at the church.
